SACRAMENTO, CA — Jim Faulkinbury of Sacramento was sworn in as the new President of the California Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (CASSAR) this past Saturday at the Society’s 139th Annual Spring Meeting, held in Sacramento.
The Sons of the American Revolution is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit, United States 501(c)3, corporation. The SAR was granted a congressional charter by an act of Congress on June 9, 1906. The act was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, who was a SAR member. Prior to the formation of the national society, a number of state societies were formed. The California Society began as the Sons of Revolutionary Sires, which was organized July 4, 1876 in San Francisco, California.
Jim Faulkinbury has held numerous leadership positions inside the CASSAR, including Secretary, Vice-President North, Executive Vice-President, and held several offices, including President, in the Sacramento Chapter, SAR. He is a retired Information Technology executive and is also a professional genealogist having been first accredited as a Certified Genealogist® in 1980. Faulkinbury holds bachelor’s degree in mathematics, an MBA, and a certificate in project management from the University of California, Davis. He served on active duty as an Electronics Officer in the USAF from 1967-1971 serving in the continental US and the Middle East. He received his honorable discharge as a Captain in 1975.
SAR members are lineal descendants of an ancestor who rendered active service in the cause of, American Independence either as an office, soldier, seaman, marine, militiaman or minuteman, in the armed forces of the Continental Congress, of any one of the several Colonies or States, as a signer of the Declaration of Independence, as a member of a Committee of Safety or Correspondence, as a member of any Continental, Provincial, or Colonial Congress or Legislature or as a recognized patriot who performed actual service by overt acts of resistance to the authority of Great Britain.
